BBQ Beef Crockpot, Slow Cooker

Crockpot — Giant BBQ Hamburger Patty

It is quick and easy to throw together! May use homemade BBQ sauce or pour it from a purchase bottle of sauce! Sliced and eaten just like a meatloaf but it is a giant juicy BBQ beef burger patty! Serve with a side of potatoes and you have a hearty meal that will stick to your ribs.

Recommend no leaner than 97 percent ground beef to avoid becoming stuck or falling apart. It needs to have plenty of juices to cook out of it.

Mush meat patty ingredients together until well and evenly combined.

Spray oil inside of crockpot very lightly.

Mash meat down hard into bottom of crockpot — nice and tightly packed and pressed together and pat/press top of it so smooth even surface.

Smear 1/4 cup BBQ sauce on top of meat.

Turn on high for 1 hour, then low for 3 to 4 more hours (will actually form a broth and sort of float a bit towards the top of the broth as it shrinks while cooking)

Carefully lift out with two sturdy spatulas and drain bottom on paper towel for a couple of minutes. (Or, pour out liquid while keeping it from sliding out, block with STURDY spatula, and then scoot it out onto thick layer of paper towels to drain after broth has been poured off.)

Heat up 1/3 cup BBQ sauce in microwave.

Transfer meat after draining on paper towels to a serving dish and spread/smear the hot BBQ on top when it comes out of microwave.

Enjoy!!!

Great with French fries, curly fries, or seasoned oven roasted potatoes. Also, the broth is good to use in making tasty mashed potatoes or add to a pot for boiling up little potatoes.

One Giant BBQ Beef Patty

Was craving grilled burgers with BBQ but no time for grilling that day (or even to cook really) so came up with this super quick and easy to throw together crockpot recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 to 3 lbs ground burger
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp each salt and pepper
  • 1cup (6 ounce can) tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce

Topping:

  • 1/3 cup BBQ sauce heated in microwave

Instructions

  1. Mush meat patty ingredients together until well and evenly combined
  2. Spray oil inside of crockpot very lightly
  3. Mash meat down hard into bottom of crockpot -- nice and tightly packed and pressed together and pat/press top of it so smooth even surface.
  4. Smear/Spread  1/4 cup BBQ sauce on top of meat.

  5. Turn on high for 1 hour, then low for 3 to 4 more hours (will actually form a broth and sort of float toward the top as it shrinks while cooking)  If you take it out too soon it will fall apart even though done.  Let it cook for the times indicated.  It will be firm yet tender and juicy.
  6. Carefully lift out with two sturdy spatulas and drain bottom on thick layers of paper towel for a couple of minutes. (or pour out liquid, while keeping it from sliding out with a STURDY spatula, and then scoot it out after broth is gone)

  7. Heat up BBQ sauce in microwave.
  8. Transfer meat after draining on paper towels to a serving dish and smear the hot BBQ on top when it comes out of microwave
  9. Enjoy!!   Sliced and eaten with a fork just like a meatloaf except it is a delicious giant BBQ hamburger patty..   Great with French fries, curly fries, or seasoned oven roasted potatoes !

About Me

Hi, I'm Tammy!

I live in Idaho but I am a southerner and moved here for career reasons in 2000. However, I am now a retired widow and have lots of time to focus on what makes me happiest -- cooking, sharing recipes, as well as teaching and sharing with others what I know about cooking and nutrition.

I don't claim to know everything there is to know about cooking and I'm not a chef, although I do know a few and helped them out from time to time and my late husband was a trained cook and baker as well as a master at smoking meats and making BBQ, and I have studied nutrition at two colleges and one university along with other degrees. I like cooking from scratch and recipes made with prepackaged items are the exception rather than the norm.

However, being disabled, I have good days and bad days so I do use what I call "cheats" on occasion. For the most part though I've learned to pace myself and with a little preplanning I manage to do the prep one day and the cooking the next so the cheats still don't happen very often.

I have an enormous collection of recipes dating from the 1700s to the present (hence, vintage to modern). Because of my late husband's health issues I also have many diabetic and heart healthy recipes or my recipes often include substitutions along with the regular ingredients.

I do just about everything when it comes to cooking so other than predominantly scratch cooking, I don't really have a set focus on any particular cuisine. I even make a few cheeses, canning, homemade ginger ale, candies and confections, and the list goes on. If there is a recipe for something you'd like to see just leave a comment or write to me at: vintage2modernkitchen@gmail.com
